Bureau of Arms Control, Verification and Compliance Reports
The "World Military Expenditures and Arms Transfers" (WMEAT) series of reports is designed to be a convenient reference on annual military expenditures, arms transfers, armed forces, selected economic data, and relative indicators consisting of pertinent military-economic ratios. The aim is to provide the arms control and international security community with useful, comprehensive, and accurate data, accompanied by analyses and highlights.
Pursuant to statute (22 U.S.C. § 2593a), the U.S. Department of State prepares a report providing a detailed assessment of the adherence of the United States and other nations to obligations undertaken in all arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament agreements or commitments to which the United States is a participating state. The report is prepared with the concurrence of the U.S. Intelligence Community and in consultation with the U.S. Departments of Defense and Energy, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
