Remarks With UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura Before Their Meeting

John Kerry
Secretary of State
Rome, Italy
December 2, 2016

SECRETARY KERRY: We have exchanged a set of ideas which there will be a meeting on early next week in Geneva and we have to wait and see whether those ideas have any legs on them, but I will say that both sides understand the importance of trying to continue the diplomacy and trying to see if something can be done. And nobody’s waiting for the next administration. They both feel there is urgency.

QUESTION: Is – these are low-level meetings – (audio cuts off.)

SECRETARY KERRY: (In progress) – again next week in the OSCE, so it was a quick follow-up.

QUESTION: Thank you.

PARTICIPANT: Okay, we’re good. Thank you.
