Remarks With Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov After Their Meeting

John Kerry
Secretary of State
Lima, Peru
November 17, 2016

QUESTION: Mr. Foreign Minister --

QUESTION: Mr. Kerry, if I may ask you, how did it go?

SECRETARY KERRY: We had a constructive, important conversation about a number of topics ranging from Yemen to Libya to Syria, obviously, as well as Ukraine and bilateral concerns. So we had a very broad discussion.

FOREIGN MINISTER LAVROV: It was a good meeting.

QUESTION: Did you mention by any chance the incident that happened at the Department of State with an RT correspondent and Mr. Kirby?

SECRETARY KERRY: No. No, we didn’t talk about that.

QUESTION: Did you talk about Russian bombing in Aleppo this week?

SECRETARY KERRY: We talked about every aspect of Aleppo. The foreign minister says it isn’t bombing. Is that accurate?

FOREIGN MINISTER LAVROV: Yeah, we are only – our air force and the Syrian air force only work in the provinces of Idlib and Homs to prevent the ISIL who might be leaving Mosul from getting to Syria. And on the RT correspondent incident, Mr. Kirby was not here, so I decided not to complain to his boss in his absence.

QUESTION: (Inaudible.)

STAFF: Thank you, everyone.

STAFF: All right, thanks, everyone. Thanks.

STAFF: Thank you.
