Remarks at Top of Meeting With Georgian Opposition Leaders

John Kerry
Secretary of State
Radisson Blue Iveria Hotel
Tbilisi, Georgia
July 7, 2016

SECRETARY KERRY: Good morning. How are you guys doing?

PARTICIPANT: Good morning. This morning, technically very well. (Laughter.)

SECRETARY KERRY: Thank you. Let me just say to our friends in the press that I am delighted to be able to meet with members of the opposition here in Georgia – a spirited and vibrant democracy that relies on opposition and relies on respect for the process. So we know how important this election is coming up because of your desires – all of you – to be looking towards Europe and towards integration, and I am really happy to be here to be able to have a chance to share thoughts with everybody about the days ahead. And I urge you to continue with confidence and with clarity to move on the reforms, to strengthen the judicial process, to make sure your election is one that everybody can really be proud of. And I am confident that with your efforts that can happen. So thank you for welcoming me here again, first time as Secretary, but here again. Good to be here.
