On the Occasion of Iceland's National Day

Press Statement
John Kerry

On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I congratulate the people of Iceland on the 72nd anniversary of the founding of your republic.

As President Obama and I discussed with Prime Minister Johannsson during the U.S.-Nordic Leaders’ Summit in May, our nations are jointly committed to advancing security, combating climate change, and protecting the Arctic. As NATO Allies, we work hand-in-hand to promote stability and the rule of law throughout Europe and around the world. As friends and partners with growing and deepening ties of trade and commerce, we look forward to building a future of shared prosperity for families, businesses, and communities in both our countries.

As you celebrate your National Day, I wish all Icelanders a peaceful and rewarding year.
