On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I would like to congratulate the people of Singapore as you celebrate the 50th anniversary of your nation’s independence this August 9.

The United States and Singapore are strong partners and trusted friends. We value and look forward to expanding our partnership and strengthening our bonds of friendship with Singapore for the next 50 years and beyond. Having just returned from Singapore, I once again had the privilege to witness your country’s remarkable evolution.  I am thrilled to see Singapore’s progress come to fruition in the spirit of Lee Kuan Yew’s vision for your country.
