Remarks With Chinese Premier Li Keqiang

John Kerry
Secretary of State
Beijing, China
May 16, 2015

SECRETARY KERRY: Thank you for the time today. I’d like to say to the media that the combination of the foreign minister and the premier were very instrumental in a number of cooperative efforts we’re engaged in, but particularly the major climate change initiative together with State Councilor Yang Jiechi. So we’re very grateful, and we have a lot more to cooperate on, so we look forward to a conversation.

PREMIER LI: (Via interpreter) (Inaudible) remark to journalists. It feels as if you haven’t done with your talking to the press.

SECRETARY KERRY: Nope, I hadn’t met with you. (Laughter.)

PREMIER LI: (Via interpreter) It’s very good to see you again, Mr. Secretary. You and I have been old friends. The (inaudible) of high-level exchanges and continuous engagement between China and the United States, the largest developing country and largest developed country in the world respectively, is essential for both countries and for the international community. You have made tremendous efforts in this field. I highly appreciate what you have been doing.

SECRETARY KERRY: Thank you very much. Glad to be here with you. Good to see you again. Thank you all.
