Secretary Clinton: Travel to Portugal With the President
Secretary Clinton traveled to Lisbon, Portugal, November 18-20. The Secretary joined President Obama participating in the NATO Summit, the NATO-Russia Council Summit, a Summit of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troop-contributing nations and other major economic development donors, and the U.S.-European Union Summit. NATO Allies will adopt a new Strategic Concept, which will prepare the Alliance to meet new threats and challenges. ISAF countries, with President Karzai, announced the beginning of transition of security responsibilities to Afghan National Security Forces by the end of 2014 and reaffirm our long-term commitment to Afghanistan. The NATO-Russia Council adopted a plan of joint work to address mutual security challenges. U.S. and European Union leaders underscores their cooperation on a broad agenda that is rooted in shared values and common global priorities.
