Secretary Kerry To Host Reception in Honor of Eid al-Fitr

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will host a reception to mark the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr at 6:00 p.m. on July 12, 2016, in the Benjamin Franklin Room at the U.S. Department of State.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a holy month of fasting, prayer, contemplation, and charity. During Eid al-Fitr, Muslims continue the important work of aiding those in need, reflecting a spirit of compassion, and honor values of family, friendship, and community.

The reception will emphasize the importance of “citizen diplomacy” and highlight ways ordinary individuals forge and strengthen ties with countries, communities, and individuals around the globe. At this event, Secretary Kerry will underscore citizen diplomacy as a cornerstone of the State Department’s public diplomacy and foreign policy efforts.

The Secretary’s remarks will be pooled press coverage for video and open press for writers and still photographers.
