June 20, 2016

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will deliver remarks at the Department of State’s "Pride at State" event at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21.

During this event, Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBT Persons Randy Berry and Secretary of the Army Eric Fanning will also deliver remarks.

The event is jointly organized by the Department of State and Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies (GLIFAA), the officially recognized employee affinity group representing LGBT+ employees of the Department of State, USAID, and the foreign affairs agencies.

GLIFAA works to secure fair treatment of LGBT colleagues in the United States and overseas.  For Foreign Service, Civil Service, contract or other employees, they act to break down barriers resulting from prejudice, misunderstanding or apathy within government institutions.  They provide a support network and information resources for employees and retirees and their families.  As foreign policy professionals, they support LGBT people struggling against discrimination and persecution abroad.  They also engage with partner organizations in the U.S. and internationally to advance all these goals.

The speech will be streamed live on 2009-2017.state.gov

The event will be open to the press.  Pre-set for video cameras: 10:00 a.m. from the 23rd Street Entrance.  Final access time for journalists and still photographers: 10:30 a.m. from the 23rd Street Entrance.
