Assistant Secretary of State Charles Rivkin Travels to Rome and Palermo

Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Charles H. Rivkin will travel June 8-10 to Rome and Palermo, Italy, where he will meet with government officials and business leaders to discuss economic growth and opportunities for increased trade and investment.

The Assistant Secretary will be in Rome June 8-9. His meetings will include a discussion with the leadership of the Young Entrepreneurs chapter of Confindustria (Italy’s largest business association) about the economic power of entrepreneurs as drivers of economic growth and job creation. This group of approximately 13,000 young entrepreneurs from throughout Italy promotes policies that support innovation. The Ambassador will also speak on “From Innovation to Growth,” to a group of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists at Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli (LUISS). LUISS is renowned for linking students with the business world.

In Palermo June 10, Assistant Secretary Rivkin’s meetings will include discussions with officials from the Research Institute of Economy and Society, an Sicilian economic think-tank that studies local and regional development issues. He will also participate in a roundtable with members of the AmCham Sicily and the Confindustria Sicily. Among the topics to be discussed will be the importance of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to the growth of the transatlantic marketplace, and how a positive investment climate and business environment encourages SME success.
