Meeting of the International Contact Group on Freedom of Religion or Belief (ICG)

On May 20, Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom David Saperstein and Special Advisor for Religious Minorities in the Near East and South and Central Asia Knox Thames, in cooperation with Andrew Bennett, former Ambassador for Religious Freedom, Global Affairs Canada, will co-host a meeting of the ICG at the Department of State. Representatives from 18 countries will participate. The meeting will bring together like-minded nations to devise strategies to promote and protect religious freedom, to look for areas of coordination and cooperation, and to develop reinforcing strategies and tactics.

Ambassador Saperstein and Special Advisor Thames will share ideas about ways the ICG can effectively promote religious freedom in the coming year by identifying areas for constructive engagement through coordination of activities and communications.
