Under Secretary Cathy Novelli To Give Keynote Address at the Ocean Summit on Marine Debris

Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Cathy Novelli will travel to Newport, Rhode Island to deliver the keynote address at the Ocean Summit on Marine Debris on May 15.

The purpose of the Ocean Summit, held during the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Newport, Rhode Island, is to raise awareness about the global problem of marine debris. The Summit will feature a documentary film produced by the Volvo Ocean Race sailors depicting the marine debris seen during their race around the world. A panel of speakers featuring representatives from science, government, philanthropy and business will address the huge environmental challenges of dealing with marine debris. The Summit is co-sponsored by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the U.S. Department of State, the Volvo Group, and Sail Newport.
