Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues Catherine M. Russell Travels to Indonesia for APEC Women and the Economy Forum

Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Catherine Russell will travel to Bali, Indonesia September 5-9 to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Women and the Economy Forum (WEF). Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sanchez will lead the U.S. delegation. While attending the WEF, Ambassador Russell will discuss bilateral issues with government officials from the APEC economies and meet with private sector leaders to examine ways to strengthen women’s economic participation in the region and further integrate gender considerations into the APEC process. She will also visit a woman-owned business involved in the preservation of Balinese culture and meet with some of its 150 women employees. This is Ambassador Russell’s first international travel since assuming the position as head of the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues (S/GWI).

On September 6, Ambassador Russell will give opening remarks for the APEC WEF Young Women Innovators Awards during the Public-Private Dialogue on Women and the Economy. On September 7, she will address the APEC Joint SME-WEF Ministerial Meeting, which includes both SME Ministers and Ministers responsible for women’s issues, highlighting the Department of State’s work in support of women’s entrepreneurship. On September 8, Ambassador Russell will deliver remarks at the APEC High Level Policy Dialogue on Women and the Economy.
