The United States and Honduras will hold a meeting of the Bilateral Human Rights Working Group on July 31 in Washington, D.C.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Liliana Ayalde, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Jane Zimmerman, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Todd Robinson will lead the U.S. Government delegation.

Minister of Justice and Human Rights Ana Pineda will lead the Honduran delegation with representatives from the Ministry of Security and the Attorney General’s Office. The Bilateral Human Rights Working Group first met in Tegucigalpa in September 2012, and addressed three themes: strengthening human rights institutions, combating impunity, and security sector reform. The July 31 meeting will revisit these themes and address continuing human rights challenges in Honduras, including the need to professionalize and improve the accountability of the Honduran National Police.
