Assistant Secretary for Population, Refugees, and Migration Anne C. Richard will travel to Serbia & Bosnia and Herzegovina from July 8-13, 2013

In Belgrade from July 8-9, Assistant Secretary Richard will meet with local government officials, representatives from international and non-governmental humanitarian organizations, residents at a collective center and at a social housing center for displaced persons. She will also give remarks at a ribbon-cutting for a U.S.-funded community center and playground.

In Sarajevo on July 10, Assistant Secretary Richard will deliver a speech on “Srebrenica’s Legacy: How the lessons of the Balkans animate humanitarianism today.” On July 11, Assistant Secretary Richard will attend the commemoration events of the Srebrenica genocide. She will also meet with government officials and representatives from diplomatic missions who are contributing to the Regional Housing Program.

Returning to Belgrade, Assistant Secretary Richard will attend the 2nd Steering Committee Meeting and 3rd Assembly of Donors meeting of the Regional Housing Program on July 12. The Regional Housing Program aims to provide sustainable housing solutions to some 74,000 most vulnerable refugees and displaced persons in the four Partner Countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia. The United States is contributing $10 million to this effort.
