The Foreign Assistance Dashboard (www.foreignassistance.gov), a key deliverable of the U.S. Government’s Open Government Partnership National Action Plan, promotes the Administration’s commitment to openness and transparency. Increasing data transparency from all U.S. agencies that fund or implement foreign assistance activities will meet the U.S. Government’s domestic and international transparency commitments, including the:

• International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI)

• U.S. Overseas Loans and Grants, Obligations and Loan Authorizations Congressional report (commonly known as the Greenbook)

• Busan Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation

• U.S. National Action Plan for the Open Government Partnership

• Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC)

The Department of State, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Department of the Treasury (Treasury) are pleased to announce that data for DoD and Treasury is now available on the Foreign Assistance Dashboard. The addition of DoD and Treasury budget, obligation, and disbursement data is a significant milestone for U.S. Government foreign assistance transparency. The DoD and Treasury data is visualized on the site in bar and pie charts and also included in the U.S. Government’s data files in the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) format found here.

DoD’s data includes Title 10 Security Sector Assistance programs. Title 10 refers to a section of The Code of Laws of the United States of America, and is titled “Armed Forces,” which governs the form, function, duties, and responsibilities of all U.S. Armed Forces in support of the goals for U.S. Security Sector Assistance. The initial information provided by DoD includes Fiscal Years 2011 and 2012, and will be updated regularly. For details on the DoD data, review the DoD FAQs on the Dashboard.

Treasury’s foreign assistance portfolio includes contributions to multilateral development institutions, related trust funds, and an assistance program managed by Treasury’s Office of Technical Assistance (OTA) to support the development of strong financial sectors in countries where assistance is needed and there is a strong commitment for reform. The information provided by Treasury dates back to 2006 and will be updated regularly. For details on the Treasury data, review the Treasury FAQs on the Dashboard.

The Foreign Assistance Dashboard serves as a tool for users to access U.S. foreign data by country, sector, and agency in an easy-to-understand format. The site provides a visual presentation of foreign assistance data in a standard and user-friendly way. Data on the site can be manually queried, filtered, and downloaded by users for further analysis. The Dashboard has become the U.S. Government’s main tool for improving foreign aid transparency with over 480,000 visitors since its initial launch in December 2010.

The Foreign Assistance Dashboard continues to contain data for the Department of State, USAID, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. The Dashboard continues to expand with the goal of including detailed foreign assistance budget, financial, and program data from all U.S. Government agencies that fund or implement foreign assistance in accordance with the OMB Bulletin 12-01. As new data is added to the Dashboard, the IATI data files will also be updated to reflect the new data set visualized on the site.
