Ambassador-at-Large Stephen J. Rapp to Attend Events at the 57th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women
Ambassador-At-Large for War Crimes Issues Stephen J. Rapp will travel to New York, New York on March 7, 2013, to attend two events at the margins of the 57th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
Ambassador Rapp will first participate in a panel titled Achieving Gender Justice: The Case for Reparations, focused on the potential contribution on reparations to post-conflict gender justice. The panel will also explore approaches necessary for reparations programs to have a sustainable and transformative impact for women in overcoming gender inequalities. The panel will take place at the UN Headquarters from 1:15 pm to 2:30 pm.
In the evening, Ambassador Rapp will attend a reception on Using Medical and Legal Networks to Promote Access to Justice for Survivors of Sexual Violence, hosted by Physicians for Human Rights. Ambassador Rapp will provide brief remarks alongside Nobel Peace Laureate Jody Williams and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Violence Against Women in Conflict Zainab Hawa Bangura. The reception will take place at the offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
