S/Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs Reta Jo Lewis Leads Business, Academic and Civil Society Delegation to Brazil

Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs Reta Jo Lewis is leading a delegation of U.S. business leaders in the fields of sports and entertainment to Sao Paulo and Brasilia, Brazil, November 26-29, 2012.

The U.S. delegation will meet with state and local officials and business representatives to discuss partnerships and to advance U.S.-Brazil subnational engagement in line with the three Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) the United States and Brazil have signed since 2008: the MOU to Support State and Local Cooperation signed in 2012; the MOU on Cooperation to Support the Organization of Major Global Sporting Events signed in 2011; and the 2008 Joint Action Plan to Eliminate Racial and Ethnic Discrimination and Promote Equality. Discussions will focus on economic and educational partnerships, and social inclusion efforts in the context of the upcoming major global sporting events, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
