Acting Under Secretary Rose Gottemoeller Travels to Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Russia

Acting Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller will visit Geneva, Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm, The Hague, and Moscow from August 26 to September 6. The purpose of her visit is to consult with senior officials on a broad range of arms control, nonproliferation, and international security issues, including the future of conventional arms control in Europe.

In Geneva on August 27-28, the Acting Under Secretary will hold discussions with her counterparts to exchange views, underscore U.S. interests, and strengthen collaborative efforts on arms control and nonproliferation issues. She also will be following up on the P5 Conference held in Washington in June.

The Acting Under Secretary will deliver remarks on arms control in the information age at the Finnish Institute for International Affairs in Helsinki, on August 29. On August 30, in Oslo, she will speak on New START and next steps in nuclear weapons reductions at the Institute for Defence Studies. On August 31 - September 4, she will be in Sweden for meetings and deliver remarks on arms control in the information age at the Swedish Institute for International Affairs and speak on conventional arms control at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.

On September 5, in The Hague, she will meet with senior officials from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and speak at the Asser Institute’s Annual WMD Summer Program.

The visit will conclude in Moscow on September 7-8, where the Acting Under Secretary will hold discussions with senior Russian officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on issues of mutual interest and deliver a keynote address at the 2012 Moscow Nonproliferation Conference.
