Travel of Ambassador Melanne S. Verveer to the Balkans
Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Melanne Verveer travels to the Balkans October 21-26.
In Zagreb, Croatia Ambassador Verveer will meet with Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor of Croatia and President Atifete Jahjaga of Kosovo to buttress U.S.-Balkan cooperation for women’s empowerment. She will also launch the Invest for the Future Conference to promote women’s economic, social and political advancement throughout the region. The conference will bring together rising and established women entrepreneurs from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia for an intensive program tailored for women entrepreneurs, to include interactive training, networking, capacity building and practical business skills.
In Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Verveer will meet with government officials, parliamentarians, media, emerging women leaders, and members of academia and civil society organizations working to address post-conflict challenges such as healing inter-community divisions, justice for victims of sexual violence, increased political participation and economic opportunity.
