Free Speech in the Digital Age: A Conversation With Michael Posner, Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor on October 24

On October 24, 2011, Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner will hold a conversation about internet freedom, a foreign policy priority of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and the Obama Administration. Posner will discuss U.S. government efforts to support the development of technologies that combat Internet censorship, the growing efforts by repressive regimes to curtail fundamental freedoms for online activity, and the responsibility of technology corporationsto respect human rights, especiallyin countries that restrict Internet freedom. An open conversation will follow Posner’s remarks, moderated by Geoffrey Cowan, University Professor and Annenberg Family Chair in Communication Leadership.

The event will take place on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the USC Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership & Policy, Tutor Campus Center, TCC 450-The Forum, 3607 Trousdale Parkway Los Angeles, CA 90089-3103. Assistant Secretary Posner will be available to the press following the event.

The opening remarks, conversation, and press opportunity will be open to the media.
