Question: Did Assistant Secretary Brownfield discuss IEDs with Pakistani government officials?

Answer: As noted in the July 5, 2011 State Department press briefing, the fourth meeting of the Law Enforcement and Counterterrorism Working Group of the U.S.-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue occurred on July 5 in Islamabad. Pakistan’s Minister of Interior Rehman Malik chaired the meeting which focused on Pakistan’s efforts to combat improvised explosive devices. Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement William Brownfield led the U.S. interagency delegation to Islamabad.

In addition to combating improvised explosive devices, discussions were also held regarding continued cooperation to enhance the professional capabilities and survivability of Pakistani law enforcement agencies to deal effectively with the scourge of terrorism and provide law and order to the communities they serve.
