Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs María Otero to Travel to Norway and France, June 14-17

Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs María Otero will travel to Oslo, Norway from June 14 to 16 to participate in the U.S.-Norway Global Issues Dialogue. At the Dialogue, she will engage with senior Norwegian officials on topics ranging from humanitarian and security issues in the Middle East to cooperation on multilateral human rights. She will also give remarks to the Women in Security Network at the Oslo Literature House on “Fragile and Post-Conflict States: The U.S. Approach” and at the Bellona Environmental NGO 25th Anniversary Event on “U.S.-Norway Cooperation in the Transition to a Low Carbon Economy.”

During her stop in Paris France from June 16 to 17, Under Secretary Otero will meet with senior government officials and international organizations to discuss civilian security, human rights, water issues and internet freedom.

As Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, Maria Otero oversees the bureaus of Population, Refugees and Migration; Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs; the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons; and the Office of the Science and Technology Advisor. She also serves as the Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues. Under Secretary Otero co-chairs the 2nd U.S.-Norway Global Issues Dialogue; this will be her second visit to Norway since June 2010.
