The United States Government congratulates the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic for its constructive action in requesting an Independent International Commission of Inquiry into the June 2010 events. We also wish to express our appreciation to the Kyrgyzstan Inquiry Commission for the hard work that culminated in the report released on Tuesday. We believe that a thorough and objective understanding of the facts regarding the tragic events of June 2010 is an essential component of long-term reconciliation and prevention of future incidents.

The United States appreciates the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic’s full cooperation with the Commission in its investigation and welcomes the Government’s decision to establish a special commission to monitor the implementation of the report’s recommendations.

We hope that the Government will take further steps to ensure accountability and justice, promote reconciliation and prevent any recurrence of similar violence, particularly by bringing justice to the victims of the crimes committed in June 2010. We know that the international community stands ready to provide any assistance that would be helpful to the Government as it implements the report’s recommendations and encourage the Government to utilize those resources.

The United States continues to support the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic in its efforts to rebuild and further stabilize the situation in the south, stressing the need for inter-ethnic dialogue to ensure lasting peace and reconciliation.
