Special Briefing on the Upcoming U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue

Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt M. Campbell and Senior Coordinator for China Affairs at the Department of the Treasury David Loevinger will brief the press on the upcoming Strategic and Economic Dialogue on May 19 at 11:45 a.m. in the Press Briefing Room at the Department of State.


Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner will join their respective Chinese Co-Chairs, State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Vice Premier Wang Qishan, for the second joint meeting of the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Beijing May 24-25. The United States regards this next meeting as an opportunity to address issues of concern and mutual interest through candid and constructive engagement, as part of our efforts to advance a positive, cooperative, and comprehensive relationship with China.


The United States hosted the first Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Washington, July 27-28, 2009.


Please note, the press credentialing application process for the Strategic and Economic Dialogue meetings in Beijing has closed.


Press should use the 23rd Street entrance of the Department of State. Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
