Assistant Secretary Brimmer to Travel to Haiti and Miami

Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, Esther Brimmer is traveling to Haiti and Miami, Florida, May 12 to 14 to support U.S. engagement with the United Nations and multilateral organizations active in the effort to rebuild Haiti.

Assistant Secretary Brimmer will meet with the United States Southern Command in Miami to discuss U.S.-UN collaboration in Haiti. In Haiti she will meet with the Haitian Education Minister Joel Jean-Pierre. She will also meet with the Special Representative of the Secretary General Edmond Mulet, visit the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), and meet with representatives from the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization Port-au-Prince office, UNICEF, and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). She will also visit a UN Human Settlements Programme (UN HABITAT) Safe Shelter Strategy pilot neighborhood. Finally, she will meet with Joint Task Force Haiti Commander Major General Trombitas at Camp Dragon.

While in Miami, Dr. Brimmer will also meet with University of Miami President Donna Shalala, members of the American Jewish Committee, as well as members of the Haitian American diaspora community.
