March 15, 2010

Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Maria Otero and Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration Eric P. Schwartz will travel March 16-18, 2010 to Denver and Phoenix to meet with resettled refugees, refugee resettlement agencies, and local and state government officials. Under Secretary Otero and Assistant Secretary Schwartz will meet with the refugee resettlement community in Denver on Wednesday, March 17 and will hold a media roundtable at 5:30 PM at the offices of the Colorado Refugee Resettlement Program, located at 789 Sherman Street in Denver. They will meet with the refugee resettlement community in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday March 18, and Schwartz will be available to meet with the media from 5:30-6:30 PM at the Director’s Conference Room #104, 1717 West Jefferson Street, in Phoenix.

The U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), which resettled nearly 75,000 refugees in the United States in 2009, has resettled nearly 2.5 million refugees since the passing of the U.S. Refugee Act 30 years ago. The opportunity to meet with partner agencies in the field, and to speak directly with refugees resettled through USRAP, is the best means of ensuring the program meets the needs of the beneficiary community.
