Notice to the Press
Washington, DC
September 4, 2009

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver the keynote address at MyGoodDeed and ServiceNation’s commemoration of the first annual National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11.

The event, which will be attended by thousands of members of the September 11 and civilian and military service communities, will take place Friday, September 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

The September 11th and service communities worked for years to achieve this annual observance, formalized in federal legislation enacted in April 2009. The law, formally named the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, received strong bipartisan support from Congress.

MyGoodDeed and ServiceNation seek to establish a forward-looking, productive and fitting legacy that remembers and honors the victims of September 11, their families, those who rose in service in response to the attacks, and those who continue to bravely serve today as public safety officers and in the United States military. Secretary Clinton is a member of MyGoodDeed’s national advisory board.

The event is open to press by invitation only. Members of the State Department Press Corps interested in attending should RSVP to by Monday, September 7.
