Background Briefing In Advance of U.S. - China Strategic and Economic Dialogue

Senior administration officials from the U.S. Departments of Treasury and State will hold a background press briefing at 11:15 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Foreign Press Center in the National Press Building, 529 14th Street, NW, 8th Floor, Washington, D.C., to preview the first joint meeting of the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue to be held in Washington, D.C. from July 27-28, 2009. A listen-in conference call line will be available for this briefing.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner will be joined for the Dialogue by their respective Chinese Co-Chairs, State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Vice Premier Wang Qishan. The Dialogue will focus on addressing the challenges and opportunities that both countries face on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global areas of immediate and long-term strategic and economic interests. This first meeting of the Dialogue also will set the stage for intensive, ongoing and future bilateral cooperative mechanisms.
