The Conference on Philanthropy and Social Entrepreneurship in Oslo

Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs
March 24, 2011

On March 24-25, Embassy Oslo co-hosted a highly successful social entrepreneurship conference that brought a Nordic focus to President Obama’s April 2010 Entrepreneurship Summit. The Partnership For Change Conference was the first of its kind in Norway, attracting over 700 attendees, including our ambassadors to Denmark and Sweden and the founders of several notable institutions. The mix of seminars, speeches, workshops and networking opportunities attracted a great mix of participants, including American and Nordic pioneers in the field, financiers, philanthropists, and, of course, potential social entrepreneurs. It was particularly rewarding to see such a diverse audience taking part in the conference. Special attention was paid to equipping potential social entrepreneurs with practical skills, such as pro bono legal assistance and coaching on presentation skills. Post will build upon this imitative in the coming months, to ensure that the social entrepreneurship spirit remains vibrant in Norway.
