Jonathan Stromseth covers the East Asia and Pacific portfolio. He served as The Asia Foundation’s Country Representative to China from 2006 to September 2014, overseeing a broad range of programs in China focusing on governance and legal reform, environmental protection, disaster management, and U.S.-China relations. Stromseth also served as The Asia Foundation’s Country Representative to Vietnam from 2000 to 2005. Previously, he worked for the United Nations peacekeeping operation in Cambodia and taught Southeast Asian politics at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia.
