2015 Summit of the Americas

The 2015 Summit of the Americas hosted by Panama is an historic opportunity to deepen partnerships, collaborate on shared challenges, and make tangible commitments to securing a brighter future for all of the people of the Americas. Building on the accomplishments of six previous Summits and two special Summits, each Summit has fostered hemispheric collaboration on region-wide issues ranging from democracy and human rights to social development and energy security.
The United States is working closely with partners throughout the Americas to ensure the 2015 Summit upholds our common commitment to inclusive economic development, democracy, and human rights, while providing robust engagement among government leaders, civil society groups, and regional business communities. We are committed to building on the successes of previous Summits and setting pragmatic goals for improving people’s daily lives.
Since 1994, Heads of State and Government from throughout the Western Hemisphere have convened every three years to address the key challenges facing the people of the Americas. The United States has worked with governments and partners across the region to realize a more prosperous, safe, and democratic future through our Summit commitments. The effects of Summit initiatives have been felt throughout the region in greater democratic freedom, enhanced energy security, and expanded economic opportunities.
"We want this to be the 'how' Summit – focused on how we tackle a few big challenges and how we seize a few big opportunities."– Secretary of State John Kerry
