Statement by Assistant Secretary of State Roberta S. Jacobson
Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs
The following is a joint statement from the U.S. Department of State and Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
The State Department and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deeply regret the April 29 accident in which two employees of the U.S. section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) lost their lives while performing maintenance on the Amistad Dam located in the riverbed of the Rio Grande between the limits of Coahuila, Mexico and Texas, USA.
We recognize the enormous care and effort always exercised by the IBWC, a binational organization that deals with issues relating to international boundaries and water resources.
We express our deep condolences to the families of our colleagues.
