VICE FOREIGN MINISTER: I was told that you had an excellent meeting with Ambassador Cho this morning.

AMBASSADOR DAVIES: I did. It was terrific to see him. We had so much to talk about that we went 15 minutes over time and tonight we’ll have a chance to continue to discuss over dinner.

VICE MINISTER: Over dinner?

AMBASSDOR DAVIES: Over dinner, yes. Looking forward to that and this is the second of my stops and so this is very much, as we say, the meat of the sandwich to come to Seoul and to talk to you and others.

VICE FOREIGN MINISTER: As I’ve said to before in Seoul and Washington, we’re off to an excellent start for the year, particularly with my minister’s visit to Washington, which produced lots of positive outcomes and then Secretary Burns’ came to Seoul and your visit to Seoul and so this series of exchange of visits, there is strong testimony of how strong our coordination and cooperation is and how strong our alliance is. We always welcome –

AMBASSDOR DAVIES: Thank you, no I think it’s been a very good start to the year. Senior level discussion and I think we’ll keep the pace up as the months go by. And let’s hope the year 2014 brings lots of good and positive changes, which I think it will because our relationship is stronger now than it has ever been.

VICE FOREIGN MINISTER: Politically we are so pleased to know that the extension bill got to the House of Representatives by unanimous consent, so that’s really good news for both of us-

AMBASSADOR DAVIES: Yes, everything is beginning very well.

VICE FOREIGN MINISTER: - and just recently we put a parity to our negotiation on burden sharing, SMA, so we bit-by-bit, we’re reaping and harvesting –

AMBASSADOR DAVIES: Well, we have to leave a few things for the future though, we can’t accomplish everything right at the beginning, but there’s much more to come and it’s always wonderful to welcome you to Washington. So I hope you have a chance to come back many times.
