CANDIDATE: John D. Feeley

John D. Feeley, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor, currently serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Department of State. A Marine Corps veteran, he is a proven leader and manager. Through service in the region and engagement in Latin American affairs in Washington, he has developed extensive knowledge of the area. A noted consensus-builder and expert in the interagency process, he is well poised to advance bilateral relations with Panama, a key U.S. ally in Latin America.

Previously, Mr. Feeley served the Department of State as Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy, Mexico City, Mexico (2009-2012), Assessor, Office of Recruitment (2008-2009), Director, Office of Central American Affairs, Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs (2006-2008), Deputy Executive Secretary, Executive Secretariat, Office of the Secretary (2004-2006), Deputy Director, Office of Andean Affairs, Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs (2004-2004) and Deputy Political Counselor, U.S. Embassy, Mexico City, Mexico (2001-2003). He was also Deputy Director, Office of Caribbean Affairs (2000-2001), Executive Assistant, Office of the Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs (1999-2000), Policy Planning Officer, Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs (1998-1999), Desk Officer, Office of Central American Affairs (1996-1998), Operations Officer, Operations Center (1995-1996), Political Officer, U.S. Embassy, Bogota, Colombia (1993-1995) and Consular Officer, U.S. Embassy, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (1990-1993). He served as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps (1983-1990).

Mr. Feeley earned a B.S. in Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1983 and a M.A. in National Security Strategy at The National War College, National Defense University in 2004. He has been the recipient of numerous Department of State Senior Foreign Service Performance Awards, Superior Honor Awards and Meritorious Honor Awards. He speaks fluent Spanish.
