Today, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs William R. Brownfield and Miami Dade Public Defender Carlos J. Martinez signed an agreement establishing a new partnership.

Through this partnership, the Miami Dade Public Defender’s Office will share its experience and expertise with partner nations who are working to fully establish criminal defense systems. The Public Defender Office will perform training and professional development abroad on topics including juvenile justice, alternatives to sentencing, and the appropriate handling of domestic violence cases. The partnership will provide Miami Dade with opportunities to establish new contacts with its international counterparts and to promote the role of public defenders in the criminal justice systems of partner countries.
